Context
Solid Snake has been serving a private group called Foxhound for a while, where he is
tasked with taking down Metal Gears. During one of his missions, he finds out that Foxhound
is also playing the villain in the politics that he is involved with, so he is forced to kill
his leader, who is Big Boss (He actually kills Venom Snake, but that is revealed in a different
game). During that same mission, he gains the trust of Kazuhira Miller. Snake leaves foxhound,
suffers from intense PTSD, and starts heavily drinking. Technically, since a large amount of
the stuff that Snake was doing was illegal, the government could have arrested him.The agreement
with the government was that if Snake stays in Alaska and doesn’t cause any more trouble unless
they need him, they won’t charge him with anything.
Mission Introduction
The government calls Snake back for a mission in Alaska on Shadow Moses Island. Rogue members
of Foxhound had started a group when they stole some nukes and were trying to take over the
island to make it their own. The leader of the group was Liquid Snake, someone who looked identical
to Solid Snake (Liquid snake is Eli). It is then come to be known that the rogue team has a metal
gear. Snake is sent on the mission with nothing but a tranquilizer gun, forcing Snake to infiltrate,
get past all of the guards, find Liquid Snake, and destroy the Metal Gear without any real assistance.
Friends and Foes
Solid Snake fights a few interesting characters, including Vulkan Raven, Sniper Wolf, Psycho mantis,
and Gray Fox. Ocelot is not killed in his battle with Snake, and becomes an important character in later
games, and Psycho Mantis is actually The Floating Boy from The Phantom Pain. Vulkan Raven and Sniper Wolf
die to Snake, and Gray Fox escapes. Snake also befriends two people, Meryl and Otacon. Meryl is a new
member of Foxhound and also Snake’s Commander’s niece. Otacon was working for the group, being forced to
make the next metal gear. Otacon is Huey’s son, and Otacon leaves the rebelled group for the reason that
he does not want to be like his father.
Fighting Metal Gear
Liquid Snake controls the Metal Gear like a mech suit, which Snake is able to take down with the aid
of Gray Fox. Gray Fox helps Snake because they were allies once at Foxhound. Liquid Snake informs Solid
Snake that they are clones of Big Boss, and that Solid Snake is the inferior clone with all of the
recessive genes, while Liquid Snake is the superior clone with all of the dominant genes. Snake is still
able to take down Liquid Fox, save Meryl and Otacon, and escape. His commander tells Snake to abandon
this life, and that he will cover for Snake, saying that he died on the island.
